What a great Chicago neighborhood! Well, I am a little biased since I live off Wells Street and North Avenue -heart of Old Town, Chicago.
Located on the Near North Side of Chicago, the Old Town Neighborhood boundaries are Armitage to the North, LaSalle to the East, Division to the South, and Larrabee to the West. The most charming & popular street, Wells Street, is filled with boutiques, restaurants, and bars. Many Chicago institutions such as Old Town Ale House, Second City, Twin Anchors and Up Down Tobacco are located in this historic neighborhood.
You may have heard of the Old Town Triangle Neighborhood, which is a Chicago Landmark District, actually bounded by Lincoln, Wells, North and the old Ogden Road. Rich in history, this quiet spot of Old Town was home to German immigrants in the mid 1800s. Many cute cottages still exist and cannot be torn down. Many of those immigrants worshipped at St. Michaels Church, a beautiful Catholic Church whose steeple can be seen from all parts of the neighborhood.
Today, Old Town Neighborhood is as popular as ever with its close proximity to the lake, great shopping, bustling night-life, and new construction homes. It even has a new branch called SoNo, south of North Ave and west of Sedgwick. SoNo, an area that has gentrified, is filled with hi-end new construction condos and single family homes. Buyers like the fact they can live on a tree-lined quiet street in the city and still have a short commute (of 15 minutes) to work in the loop. They can also walk to the park, lake, grocery store, and many Old Town shops. For all these reasons, Old Town continues to grow and prosper.
