Preparing the Exterior of Your Home

Exterior Walls

Evaluate the condition of your home’s siding. Cracked or chipped vinyl siding may need to be replaced whereas brick siding may have minor imperfections in the mortar requiring nothing more than a quick touch-up; most hardware stores will have all necessary supplies for this do-it-yourself project. Asphalt, shingle, stucco, and adobe facades should be inspected by a qualified house inspector to ensure there is no significant damage. Consider the color of your exterior, too. A lavender house with pastel green trim will only appeal to a very select group of people but a cream color with white trim will appeal to a more general audience.
