The Altgeld Gardens Neighborhood was constructed between 1945 and 1954 primarily for post-World War II military personnel. Originally owned by the Federal Government, the mostly two-story row-house development was granted to the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) in 1956. The CHA began a comprehensive rehabilitation of the Altgeld Gardens Neighborhood in January 2005; and is slated to be completed by 2009.
The Altgeld Gardens Neighborhood is on Chicago's far South-Side and is bordered approximately by 130th St (13000S) on the North, 134th Pl (13450S) and Little Calumet River on the South, Carver Dr and the 1200E coordinate on the East, and Langley Ave at 600E on the West. Statistics by Zip Code:
