The Avalon Park Neighborhood's claim to fame is Avalon Public Park. 'Avalon' is a reference to the Isle of Avalon, believed to be the burial place of King Arthur and is prominently displayed throughout the area as, not only the name of the neighborhood, but also a park and a local street. Avalon Park Real Estate was, initially, single-family brick bungalows; but recent gentrification has brought in Single Family Home New Construction. Primarily a residential area, a small shopping district along 79th St and Stony Island Ave serves the commercial needs of the Avalon Park Neighborhood's residents.
Avalon Park is bordered by 79th St (7900S) to the North, Stony Island Ave (1600E) on the East, 83rd St (8300S) on the South, and Greenwood Ave (~1100E) on the West and is located on Chicago's South-East side. Statistics by Zip Code:
