The Ida B. Wells/Darrow Homes Neighborhood is on Chicago's South-Side near the Bronzeville Neighborhood and is bordered on the North by 35th St (3500S), the West by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Dr (400E), the South by Pershing Rd (3900S), and the East by Cottage Grove Ave (800E). The Wells/Darrow area is a public housing complex that was developed between 1940 and 1970. The Ida B. Wells Section was developed in 1941 and was Chicago's first public housing development to include a city park, Madden Public Park.
Beginning in 2003, plans to revitalize the Ida B. Wells/Darrow Homes Neighborhood with mixed-income housing began. The plans outline rebuilding this area as a traditional Chicago neighborhood with homes being architecturally similar to other immediately adjacent building styles; most of these would be 2 and 3-flat Multi-Unit homes.
