The Lathrop Homes Neighborhood is a near North West Chicago area. The western boundary, from ~2220W on Oakdale Ave, moves South to follow the North Branch of the Chicago River near 2900N, or George St, then South East to Fullerton Ave (2400N) at ~1860W. From here, Fullerton Ave, the southern limit, moves East to meet the East border of Ashalnd Ave (1600W). From Ashland Ave and Diversey Ave (2800N), the North edge moves West to Clybourn Ave at Damen Ave (2000W), then North West along Clybourn Ave to Leavitt St (200W), then South to Oakdale Ave, and finally West to where the West boundary begins at 2220 W Oakdale.
With roots that date as far back as the 1930's, the Julia Lathrop Homes Development, a small section and namesake of the Lathrop Homes Neighborhood, was one of Chicago's oldest housing projects. Located immediately adjacent to the Chicago River, the development spanned from Leavitt St down to Wrightwood Ave along the river's East shores. Sparsely populated, the development is poised to be razed to the ground. On the eastern side of the neighborhood, more between Diversey Pkwy and Fullerton Ave along Ashland Ave, is the familiar vibe that one would find in the Lakeview or neighboring DePaul neighborhoods. Lathrop Homes Real Estate is simply teeming with new construction, while an abundant supply of condos comprises almost half of the available housing stock. Statistics by Zip Code:
