The Little Italy Neighborhood is part of the Near West Side Community Area, just minutes South of Chicago’s downtown Loop. It runs along a 12 block stretch of Taylor Street East of Ashland Avenue and encompasses the streets to the North and South for several blocks in each direction. Home to many traditional and long established eateries, it has been a mainstay for Chicago’s Italian-American population for decades. It is also home to the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame (and nearby Joe DiMaggio plaza) as well as Al's Italian beef and Arrigio (Peanut) Park.
Little Italy is steeped in the ethnic European tradition Chicago has long been known for. The community is walking distance to, and thus provides much of the housing stock for the Illinois Medical District as well as the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). As is the case with most Chicago neighborhoods, Little Italy is close to all forms of mass transit and is close to highway and interstate access. Statistics by Zip Code:
