Known as Chicago’s ultimate urban art community, the River West Neighborhood nestles itself among the Chicago River, Merchandise Mart, and Michigan Avenue to make it an area definitely worth visiting. With a number of photography studios, specialty shops, galleries and production companies, River North offers its inhabitants the unstructured warehouse feel that has made this area’s feel so unique. In the 1970’s, this area of Chicago was an industrialized section that has kept it’s structure but added a sense of nightlife and entertainment which has made this one of the hottest spots in Chicago. From sightseeing to clubbing to doing business, River West offers an array of café's, restaurants and social spots to cater to your needs. The Illinois Institute of Art is located in the Merchandise Mart and one of Northwestern University’s campuses call River West home making this a high-traffic location for students and up-and-coming artists. Transportation is also not a problem in this heavily congested area with trains and buses and more cabs than you would care to see in a lifetime!
