The South Austin Neighborhood is on Chicago's South-West side and is bordered on the North by Division St (1200N) and the West by Austin Blvd (6000W). The East and South boundaries are Cicero Ave (4800W) and the Eisenhower Expwy along the 725S coordinate.
South Austin can be seen as a developing urban market; and a diverse array of cultures and families can be found througout the area. Heavily populated by families, South Austin boasts some of the largest percentages of family households in Chicago. Similar to surrounding areas, South Austin faced much hardship during the depression and the strife of the 1960's and 70's pushed the area into a status of urban blight. Recently, as with most of Chicago, dilapidated buildings have been razed to the ground to make space for new real estate development projects for both residential and commercial purposes.
