As one of the neighborhoods that makes up Chicago’s West Town Community Area, the Ukrainian Village Neighborhood settles itself on both sides of Chicago Avenue on the West side of the loop. In the 19th and 20th centuries the majority of residents were of Ukraine heritage, but has been inhabited by more and more Polish and German families through the years. There are mostly younger families in the Ukrainian Village, and is very enticing for younger people as the real estate is more reasonable than the area directly east. With a wide range of apartments and smaller houses, the Village does provide old beauty with vintage houses placed randomly through the streets. Theses homes, however, very rarely go up for sale as they are usually passed down through families.

There is an amazing choice of Ukrainian cuisine in the area as well as plenty of coffee shops and clothing stores. The Chopin Theatre calls this neighborhood as well as the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art. The Institute was founded in 1971 and has become a great place to learn about Ukrainian Heritage with its many cultural exhibitions, film shows, music performances, and literature discussions. The Ukrainian Village offers its residents many schools to choose from and has CTA routes close by as well as plenty of parking.
