The Union Ridge Neighborhood is centered around W Higgins Ave and N Oak Park Ave on the North West Side of Chicago. Bounded on the North by the Kennedy Expwy near Bryn Mawr (5600N), the West limit is Harlem Ave (7200W), the South edge is Foster Ave (5200N), and the East border is Nagle Ave (6434W). The area's most notable site, Union Ridge School, was originally built in 1876 on an acre of land given by Charles Ball and was initially referred to as Smith's Schoolhouse. One of the highest points in the Chicago, this area is sometimes considered to be an 'island in the city.'
