The West Town Neighborhood is among the larger, if not the largest, neighborhoods in Chicago. Bounded on the North by Chicago Ave (800N), the West border is California Ave (2800W) while the Kennedy Expwy, from 1200W to 700W, composes the East limit. The South edge of the neighborhood, from California Ave, is Washington Blvd (100N) heading East to Green St (834W), South to Madison St (0 N/S), then East to finish at the Kennedy Expwy. West Town's proximity to downtown, ease of commuting throughout the city, and sheer geographical size, makes it a true 'melting pot'. The redevelopment and rebuilding of Chicago from where it was to what it will become can be seen in the microcosm of this neighborhood. On the westernmost part of the area, new construction homes and businesses are signature; and any property that was prime for rehab or even restoration has since been procured by aspiring individuals and the work necessary to accomplish either of these kinds of home renovation is in full swing. This is sometimes referred to as the 'line of gentrification.' Along the southern border lies a significant industrial area serving shipping and manufactoring industries.
