As a steadily revamping neighborhood, the Woodlawn Neighborhood is a community that has been and is continuing to go to great lengths to rid the streets of crime and make the community safer than it has ever been before. This South side neighborhood has been the focus of a city-sponsored project aimed at improving schools and education, improving infrastructure and pinpointing the reasons for lack of economic growth. A number of more expensive homes have been built in the neighborhood, making the area a place that people would want to invest in, as well as new businesses replacing liquor stores that have caused drug trafficking, underage drinking and prostitution. Residents of the Woodlawn Neighborhood have also declared areas of the neighborhood "dry" so these institutions cannot reopen, making it a safer area for children and families. Woodlawn’s next order of business is to improve education in the neighborhood by making it a better educational environment for the kids and returning the neighborhood to the level of success it once flaunted.

Statistics by Zip Code:
  • In 60637, the median home price was $200,000 as of October 2007, which shows a difference of -0.01% in appreciation from the previous year.
The Woodlawn Neighborhood is the namesake of Woodlawn Community Area.
